Surfers in Hawaii and on the West Coast of the Americas are in for a treat late in the season. Just in time for St. Patrick’s Day, a series of powerful storms will send some decent-sized swell to beaches, reefs, and points.
From Pipeline to Rincon, these upcoming west and northwest swells look to deliver the goods. Surfers in Hawaii will see the first round of swell this weekend. From there, a series of swell events will light up the islands and send pumping surf towards the mainland.
Surging West Swell Headed for Hawaii and California
If you live within the Hawaiian Islands or America’s West Coast, get ready for a late-season hurrah just before spring. According to the latest Surfline forecast, a series of strong storms are developing northwest of the Hawaiian Islands.
These storms will throw some major northwest to west energy towards the seven-mile miracle and eventually the west coast of the Americas.
By the end of the month, places like California, Oregon, and Mexico should see a stream of head-high and higher surf in standout breaks.
After spring, the North Pacific convener belt of storms seasonally slows down. This year, surfers on the Pacific can milk the last dregs of swell from the north before looking south for the goods.
Weekend Swell for the Meo Rip Curl Pro
After a heated build up which saw a shake up in both the men’s and women’s leaderboard, the swell for the Meo Rip Curl Pro Portugal is predicted to fall and then pick up.
According to the updated forecast by Surfline, Wednesday and Saturday look to have the best swell. Wednesday will see continued mid-period WNW energy and favorable winds. This may produce some desirable barrels for the world’s best to finish the event at Supertubos.
If the winds and swell don’t cooperate, there’s a chance of some fun longer-period west swell to come on Saturday. With the possibility of early morning and afternoon offshore winds, this day is looking like it could be epic.
