On May 29 and May 30, surf fans watched as the world’s best took on picture perfect Teahupo’o. Local Tahitian prodigy, Vahine Fierro, took control on the women’s side and earned Tahiti its first wildcard win at the event.
On the men’s side, the Brazilian storm reformed. Gabriel Medina and Italo Ferreira put on a clinic, with Ferreira winning the event against two-time world champion John John Florence.
Now, going into event #7, the stage is set for a final 5 showdown at one of the world’s best right point breaks. Whoever comes out on top is inches away from securing a spot in the Lexus WSL Finals at Trestles in September.
Final 5
After the epic event in Tahiti, the top surfers on both the men’s and women’s sides went through a shakeup. For the women, Brisa Hennessy leads over Caitlin Simmers, although just barely. For the men, two-time WSL Champion John John Florence sits above the pack.

Event #7
Event #7 on the championship tour is the Surf City El Salvador Pro presented by Corona. The event window is from June 6-15.
The wave Punta Roca is known for its high-performance rights that peel down a rocky point break. The world’s best will have lightning fast barrels, air sections, and plenty of open faces to carve into.
There are three regular season events remaining until the final event at Trestles, California.
